For effective horse therapy, the PEMF device must create a pulsed electromagnetic field strong enough so that the injured area is completely penetrated at a therapeutic level. The challenge is that the strength of a PEMF signal dissipates rapidly when the distance is increased from a PEMF loop. Often times the injured area can be several inches or more below the skin. In this case, if the device is not designed properly, the PEMF will then drop below therapeutic levels before reaching the injury. When the signal drops below therapeutic levels the PEMF therapy is less effective. Deep scarring, blockages, and trauma of connective tissue, ligaments, etc., may be present in the area being treated.
